Attorneys

North Carolina General Statute § 116-40.11 provides students with the fundamental right to have an attorney present during portions of the disciplinary process at Appalachian State University. The Code of Student Conduct specifically outlines this role and provides information regarding our process. Information regarding the role of an attorney can be found in the Code of Student Conduct .

For a better understanding of the disciplinary process, and student rights and responsibility, please contact us for further information.

In an effort to educate and prepare attorneys and/or non-attorney advisors we have provided information regarding our process. Please keep in mind that the University disciplinary process is very different from the civil or criminal judicial system. The University's process is not adversarial; its purpose is to educate the student and contribute to his or her ethical development. If you have additional questions after reviewing our website and the information provided specifically for attorneys and non-attorney advisors, please contact the Office of Student Conduct.
